Nepantla Spora
Nothing short of an historic event! Through Nepantla Spora, we reclaimed traditional knowledge, restored ancestral memories through food and really strengthened community relationships in ways that would make our ancestors proud. Proud to see us thriving!
We are in awe of the vast support network that has been built and has allowed our stories and place in this fungal scene to not be ignored or taken for granted. We have had many take our work and package it up with curated graphics and watered down politics but we realize that our magic cannot be replicated and any attempt to do so only results in inauthentic propaganda.
Through grassroots community efforts and heart centered care and intention that everyone who showed up to volunteer, cook, serve, set-up/takedown, curate brought with them, we created an evening that celebrated all our Queer kin, both human and fungal, while creating new culture and honoring past legacies.
Our ancestors are proud and smiling on our work and ability to thrive in this environment.
An enormous amount of behind the scenes work and involvement goes into bringing an event like this into reality and for that we are forever in gratitude for all who participated and supported! The kitchen was such a special place that evening with some of the most beautiful aromas of chile, blue corn maize, and aromatic herbs along with copal and smoldering Chaga to keep our kitchen staff protected. Or chefs Canek and Sewa along with Cristina were the evenings rockstars and we couldn’t be more grateful for you. A huge thank you to Paulina from Ama Cacao for providing the Cacao Truffles and prayers for a beautiful and successful evening.
The artist who came and poured their hearts and soul into their pieces, and poems honored us all with their love and magic that left many in tears!
Our volunteers are the real unsung heroes and glue that hold this community together. We are so touched by the dedication and willingness to jump in and support wherever needed was so heartwarming and appreciated!
Thank you all for your love, support and solidarity!
